Hornstein family

We are the Hornstein family and live on our winery, the Seehaldenhof.

In winemaking, we place great value on sustainability and care for the vines . The wines show our attention to detail and our roots in the region.

Simon Hornstein is responsible for the vines and for everything that needs to be done to make the grapes into unique wines in your glass. His dad Roland Hornstein is at his side. His mom Jutta Hornstein can be found mainly in the wine shop and in the cozy holiday apartments . Lisa Hornstein makes sure that you find out everything there is to know about our winery here on the website and on social media .

How the Hornstein am See winery became the Seehaldenhof...

1999

Jutta and Roland Hornstein are brave and are starting to grow their own wine on their farm "Hornstein am See", after previously focusing on fruit growing.

Roland Hornstein makes the wines and Jutta Hornstein is the hostess of the guest rooms and holiday apartments.

Hornstein at the lake

Simon grew up on the Hornstein winery by the lake. The world of wine fascinated him more and more and he decided (after a few other crazy ideas) to become a winemaker himself.

After the training in Meersburg and the studies in Geisenheim, internships followed in Franconia (Weingut Fürst) and Styria (Weingut Gross).

In 2017, Simon joined the business at home and got involved in the vineyards and the cellar.

seehaldenhof

Little by little it becomes clear: wines of origin are the future! Because every wine has a home and you should be able to taste it and also recognize it by the name.

Not only the design of the bottles, but also the name of the farm will be changed: From April 2024 we will be the seehaldenhof!

Simon focuses on regional, local and single-vineyard wines, paving the way for the highest quality and sustainable craftsmanship. Save the planet - but with a good wine in your hand.

Bavarian Lake Constance - Hotspot Nonnenhorn

Our vines grow on the Bavarian Lake Constance. Cool climate, the snow-capped mountains behind the glittering lake full of sailing boats - quite unique.

Simon puts it all into the bottle - special climate, holiday feeling, gravelly ground underfoot.

The location on Lake Constance not only creates comfortable conditions for us, but also for the cultivation of the vines. The rolling hills and the mild climate ensure that the grapes ripen slowly and can develop their full aroma. Each location offers different conditions for the vines.

As the Hornstein family, we live on our Seehaldenhof winery in - guess what - Nonnenhorner Seehalde. But the other sites on the Bavarian Lake Constance also offer interesting foundations and challenges. Stay tuned - soon more terroir focused wines will be joining Seehalde and Sonnenbichl.

Simon Hornstein and the soils

It's a love story!

It is well known that soil plays a major role in winemaking. But Simon's interest in this area even drove him to write his bachelor's thesis on the soils of the Bavarian Lake Constance. Because you can taste the soil - in the best case scenario.

The soils in Nonnenhorn and the surrounding area consist of a mixture of sand, gravel and clay. The different types of soil give the vines different minerals, which are reflected in the taste of the wine. Each vineyard has its own character that needs to be teased out. So exciting!

Wine tastings and guided tours at the seehaldenhof winery

To get to know the wines from the seehaldenhof winery, you can take part in a wine tasting and guided tour during the blue hour (Mondays, 5-6 p.m.). Simon Hornstein or Roland Hornstein will lead you through the vineyard from seehaldenhof to the lake and explain how we make wine. During a small tasting you have the opportunity to try various wines from the winery. Please register with us in advance (15€ per person).

Events and festivals

Celebrate with us!

It's not just the Hornstein family winery that likes to celebrate - our colleagues on the Bavarian Lake Constance also like to dance with a glass of wine in their hands. That's why we like to get together - for example at Komm&See (every year at the beginning of July) or the wine festival in Nonnenhorn. Wine culture at its best. And right on the lake!

You can always find dates and news here .

Latest reviews and awards

When our winery was still called "Hornstein am See", we had already collected several awards. Eichelmann honored us as Discovery of the Year 2021, in 2022 we were Discovery of the Year at Vinum (Württemberg), Falstaff followed in 2023 and also named us Discovery of the Year and in 2024 we were Gault Millau's Highest Newcomer.

We are excited to see what happens next for us as Seehaldenhof.

Our wines

Our wines have different personalities. Every vineyard is unique - every year is different. This shapes the plants and their fruits. That's the life of the vines - taste it!
